Weekly Initial Unemployment Claims decline to 323,000

The DOL reports:

In the week ending November 16, the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial claims was 323,000, a decrease of 21,000 from the previous week's revised figure of 344,000. The 4-week moving average was 338,500, a decrease of 6,750 from the previous week's revised average of 345,250.

The previous week was up from 339,000.

The following graph shows the 4-week moving average of weekly claims since January 2000.

The dashed line on the graph is the current 4-week average. The four-week average of weekly unemployment claims decreased to 338,500.

Some of the recent volatility in weekly claims was due to processing problems in California (now resolved).
